Rather than the regular praying for an hour with praises and loud prayers, I shifted the meeting to a more solemn prayer meeting. We start with Quiet Time and listening to music. We also ask God what He wants us to pray rather than focusing on a long prayer list. Then, comes the Scripture. We are focused on going through the book of John. A little discussion and application for the day for all of us. Then praying out loud to God for UECP. The focus of our prayer meeting for the past week is to pray for the church leaders, pastors and the spiritual life of members. We are very particular in stating the names of people in the church and the focus was for them to become more prayerful; enjoying prayer time, sensitivity to prayer, prayer all the time, and of course attending church prayer meeting.
I think this is more acceptable since we do not only focus on prayer but learning from the Scripture together. It is like a daily Bible Study but short ones. I felt that this is also a good opportunity to accompany church members in doing devotion; like an OJT on quiet time, devotion and prayer time all in one. It seems fun doing this. At least they got to experience how to really do this spiritual disciplines with an exact model on how to do it.
The sharing was great but I have to control time in order not to neglect the main purpose - to pray. Praise the Lord for His wisdom and His desire to call us to have relationship with Him.
